General Overview
Sleep disorders usually remain unattended until they hamper one’s productivity and energy levels in routine activities. Sleep Apnea is a physical condition which affects the breathing of an individual while they sleep. It is known to affect the blood pressure, heart rhythm, breathing during the day time and overall health. It is under-diagnosed in United States.
Diagnosing Sleep Apnea
We ask patients with high suspicion, to fill out the
STOP BANG questionnaire.
If patients are at high risk, we initially perform an unattended home sleep study (WatchPAT).This test includes electrodes and bands that are placed on the surface of the body, as well as sensors that are attached to the fingertips, to record variations in the breathing process. You can do the test in the comfort of your own bed. If the test is abnormal, you are referred to sleep physicians for further management.
